Congenital heart disease refers to developmental changes in the heart that are typically present at birth. The severity of these diseases is evaluated using echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, and angiography.
Acquired heart disease refers to changes in the size, shape, or function of the heart that develop later in life. These may include the formation of fluid, valvular disease, or rhythm abnormalities.
